Minister Nyesom Wike has made an appeal to President Bola Tinubu to name two roads in Guzape Districts after renowned literary figures Chinua Achebe and J.P. Clark.
Wike made the request during the inauguration of Guzape Lot II Engineering Infrastructure, as he celebrated Tinubu’s one year in office.
Highlighting the contributions of these literary icons, Wike emphasized the importance of recognizing Nigerians who have made significant contributions to the literary world.
Chinua Achebe, a celebrated novelist, poet, and key figure in modern African literature, and J.P. Clark, a notable poet and playwright, have both made Nigeria proud through their works.
Guzape District, described as one of the largest and fastest-developing districts in the Federal Capital Territory, holds immense significance for the proposed road names.
Wike shared that the contract for the infrastructure was awarded in 2003 during the administration of Olusegun Obasanjo, with Lot I assigned to Dantata and Sawoe, and Lot II to Gilmor Engineering.
While acknowledging the challenges faced during the project, including litigation by residents opposing rock blasting for road construction, Wike expressed his satisfaction with the progress made.
He commended the Tinubu administration for mobilizing contractors back to the site and ensuring the timely delivery of the project.
In addition to the completion of Lot II, Wike assured that the ongoing work in the Guzape Diplomatic Zone would soon be finished.
The minister’s appeal to Tinubu to honor Achebe and Clark with road names reflects the desire to recognize and celebrate the literary contributions of these esteemed Nigerians.
