Grammy-winning Nigerian artist Ayodeji Balogun, popularly known as Wizkid, continues to grapple with the profound loss of his mother, Mrs. Jane Morayo Balogun. This grief is deeply reflected in his latest collaboration with Asake on the track ‘MMS.’

In his verse, Wizkid opens up about the impact of his mother’s death, revealing how it led him to lose himself before rediscovering his purpose. The poignant lyrics convey his emotional journey:

“You no fit run from who you are
Man, wetin go be, man, is cast in stone…
Why mama leave me, yeah, e no long
Lost myself and I found my purpose
Yeah, everyday, I know that I’m blessed…

Wizkid’s mother passed away on August 18, 2023, in London. On what would have been her birthday on July 4th, Wizkid expressed his deep sorrow, stating that his life feels empty without her. He shared that he misses her daily and that his heart remains forever broken.

In honor of his late mother, Wizkid has announced plans to release a new album titled ‘Morayo,’ named after her middle name, as a tribute to her memory.
