Leadership News reports that a 23-year-old woman has recounted how she stole a newborn baby from a hospital bed in Adamawa State.

The woman, Maryam Sani, took the infant from a clinic in Ngurore, a community in the Yola South Local Government Area.

Confessing her actions to reporters, Maryam explained that after experiencing a miscarriage three months into her pregnancy without informing her husband, she felt pressured to present a baby when her supposed pregnancy reached full term.

She disclosed that during a visit to the clinic for a check-up due to feeling unwell, she found herself in an unattended ward. Noticing a baby on a bed while the mother and others were sleeping outside, she seized the opportunity to take the infant.

“I didn’t take the newborn baby girl for any malicious reason. I took her because I loved her and needed her for myself,” she explained.

She added that when she brought the baby home, no one suspected anything since she appeared to be pregnant.

“The community believed I was pregnant, and we even held a naming ceremony without my husband knowing the truth about how the baby came into our lives,” Maryam said.

However, her deception came to an end when she was arrested after the baby’s biological parents reported the incident to the police. The ensuing investigation led to her capture.

The Police Public Relations Officer in Adamawa State, SP Suleiman Nguroje, has pledged that the woman will face justice for her crime.
