In a shocking incident that has rocked the city of Ibadan, a woman has been arrested for allegedly grinding glass bottles and mixing them into a meal of *amala* meant for her husband. The incident occurred in the early hours of yesterday in the Bodija area of Ibadan, Oyo State.
According to sources, the woman, identified as Mrs. Opeyemi Ojo, reportedly confessed to lacing her husband’s food with ground glass because she was tired of her marriage. She had prepared the local delicacy, *amala*, for her husband, Mr. Tubosun Ojo, who unsuspectingly ate the contaminated meal.
Mr. Ojo was later rushed to the hospital after he began experiencing severe abdominal pain and discomfort. Doctors who attended to him confirmed that he suffered extensive damage to his internal organs, particularly his kidneys, as a result of ingesting the ground glass.
A close family friend, who preferred to remain anonymous, revealed that Mrs. Ojo had been unhappy in the marriage for several years. “She often complained about being unhappy, but no one thought she could go this far,” the source said.
The Oyo State Police Command confirmed the arrest of Mrs. Ojo, stating that she is currently in custody and will be charged to court upon completion of the investigation.
As of the time of filing this report, Mr. Ojo remains in critical condition at the University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan, where doctors are working to save his life. His family has called for prayers as he undergoes treatment.
The incident has sparked widespread outrage in the community, with many calling for justice and urging couples to seek peaceful resolutions to marital problems rather than resorting to violence.
