The Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC), The Trade Union Congress (TUC), and their affiliate unions in Akwa Ibom State have applauded the State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno for his commitment to the welfare of workers across the State.

The State Chairman of NLC, Comrade Sunny James made the commendation when he led labour leaders on a condolence visit to the Governor, in his country home, Ikot Ekpene Udo, Nsit Ubium LGA, over the demise of his wife, Pastor (Mrs) Patience Eno.

The Chairman said, “You have done so well for the Nigerian workers. Thank you for all you have done for Akwa Ibom workers.

“Let me assure you that workers will continue to be with you now and beyond.”

Comrade James recalled that the late First Lady was very friendly with workers, and urged the Governor and members of his family to be consoled by her legacies and lives she impacted.

Responding, Governor Eno expressed gratitude to the group for the condolence visit and the solidarity, saying, “If there’s any group that really made us happy during this condolence visit, it’s the labour union.

“Thank you so much for the encouragement and the fact that you all came together shows unity.”

Governor Eno highlighting some of his administration’s efforts to enhance workers’ welfare including his agreement on payment of minimum wage upon completion of the ongoing verification exercise, 13 months’ salary to civil servants, consistent payment of arrears of gratuity, the Free housing for 150 junior staff, health insurance for about 10, 000 junior workers, and others.

“We will continue to work with labour in the state, we have taken issues of workers welfare very seriously. We can achieve more by dialogue, so let’s continue to build Akwa Ibom together.”

He appreciated the team for the visit, love and support, and assured of continuous partnership to build a better Akwa Ibom.
