The Yobe State government has allocated ₦179.8 million to subsidize the costs for 1,332 pilgrims traveling to Saudi Arabia for this year’s Hajj. This significant financial support emphasizes the state’s commitment to facilitating religious observances for its citizens.
The announcement was made through a press statement released to journalists by Mamman Mohammed, the Director General on Press and Media Affairs to the governor. During a briefing with the governor, the Chairman of the Hajj commission, Mai Aliyu, provided detailed updates on the progress of the pilgrimage.
According to Aliyu, each pilgrim received a subsidy of ₦135,000 as part of their basic travelling allowance. This subsidy was approved by Governor Mai Mala Buni to alleviate the financial burden on the pilgrims and ensure their journey was as smooth as possible.
Aliyu also confirmed that all 1,332 pilgrims, along with officials from the Hajj commission, have successfully been airlifted to Saudi Arabia. The pilgrims landed in Medina, the second holiest city in Islam, where they began their religious obligations and visitations. Most pilgrims have now proceeded to Makkah, with only a few remaining in Medina to complete their initial rites.
The commission, in its efforts to enhance the pilgrims’ experience, secured hotel accommodations within walking distance of the Holy Mosques in both Medina and Makkah. This proximity is intended to help pilgrims focus more on their spiritual duties without the distraction of lengthy commutes.
Aliyu reassured that all the pilgrims are in good health and high spirits. They have been consistently praying for the governor, the government of Yobe State, and for the peace and prosperity of Nigeria as a whole. This communal spirit of prayer highlights the deep sense of unity and devotion among the pilgrims.
Governor Buni expressed his appreciation for the commission and the airline operators for their efficient handling of the airlift operations. He emphasized the importance of prioritizing the welfare of the pilgrims, noting that the commission’s primary role is to serve the needs of the pilgrims effectively. He urged the commission to maintain a high standard of service to ensure that the pilgrims have a fulfilling and trouble-free Hajj experience.
In his message to the pilgrims, Governor Buni called for peaceful conduct and adherence to the traditions of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (SAW) during the Hajj. He prayed to Allah for the acceptance of the pilgrims’ religious duties and their individual and collective prayers. Additionally, he wished them a safe journey and a blessed return to their homes.
Governor Buni’s proactive measures and the commission’s dedicated efforts reflect the government’s unwavering support for its citizens’ religious commitments. The comprehensive arrangements and substantial subsidies provided by the Yobe State government demonstrate a deep-seated commitment to ensuring that the spiritual needs of its people are met with dignity and respect.
