Bayern Munich sporting Director Max Eber has explained why he sanctioned the sale of Dutch defender Matthijs De Ligt and Moroccan right-back Mazraoui to Manchester United.
United acquired the services of De Ligt and Defender Noussair Mazraoui permanently as they both made their debut in United’s 1-0 win over Fulham at Old Trafford on the opening weekend.
As reported earlier, Matthijs De Ligt said Bayern coach Vincent Kompany regarded him as his number-one centre-back but was shocked at the news of his departure.
Bayern director Eberl when asked why they sold de Ligt: “You can’t go into the season with 35 players, or 𝐝𝐨 𝐥𝐢𝐤𝐞 𝐂𝐡𝐞𝐥𝐬𝐞𝐚 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝟒𝟓 𝐩𝐥𝐚𝐲𝐞𝐫𝐬!”.
“We spent money on Olise, Palhinha and Hiroki. So as a club, you have to generate money”, Max Eberl added.
“I understand that there are fan favourites. We don’t make decisions based on fan favourites.
“We made our decisions with Kompany regarding defence, we wanted a left-footed defender, that’s why we signed Hiroki”. He added.
