The Police Service Commission (PSC) has announced the appointment of Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) Yahaya Abubakar to the position of Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG). This significant appointment was disclosed in a statement released by Ikechukwu Ani, the Head of Press and Public Relations for the Commission.
Before this appointment, Abubakar served as the AIG in charge of Zone 14, Katsina. With his new role, he will represent the North East Geopolitical Zone on the Police Management Team. This position became vacant following the recent retirement of DIG Habu Sani, who was the DIG in charge of the Force Intelligence Bureau and also represented the North East Zone.
In addition to Abubakar’s appointment, the PSC has also approved the promotion of 122 senior police officers. This includes the elevation of ten Commissioners of Police to the rank of Assistant Inspectors General (AIG), fifteen Deputy Commissioners of Police to the rank of substantive Commissioners, and thirty-six Assistant Commissioners of Police to the rank of Deputy Commissioners. Moreover, sixty-one Chief Superintendents of Police have been promoted to the rank of Assistant Commissioners of Police.
These promotions are part of the Commission’s ongoing efforts to recognize and reward the hard work and dedication of officers within the Nigerian Police Force. The elevation of these officers is expected to bolster the leadership and operational efficiency of the police force across various levels.
