Ikenga Ugochinyere, a member of the House of Representatives representing the Ideato North and South Constituency, has expressed confidence that Rivers State Governor Siminalaya Fubara will run for re-election in 2027 and emerge victorious.
During a gathering with constituents in Akokwa, located in the Ideato North local government area of Imo State, Ugochinyere warned that any attempt by forces in Abuja to withhold the federal allocations meant for Rivers State could trigger a security crisis within the region.
He addressed concerns regarding the actions of 27 lawmakers from Rivers State who are attempting to gain control of the state’s House of Assembly, asserting that such efforts would be futile.
He pointed out that these lawmakers had defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC) during a period when there was no internal conflict within their party.
Ugochinyere revealed that the lawmakers’ real aim in seeking control of the House was to facilitate the impeachment of Governor Fubara. “If you cut off the allocations to Rivers State, can you ensure the safety and payment of salaries for teachers and others?” he asked.
“They are trying to create a situation that would justify the impeachment of the governor. However, let me assure you, Fubara will run for office again in 2027, and he will win,” Ugochinyere affirmed.
The lawmaker from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) also urged the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Kudirat Kekere-Ekun, to take appropriate measures to ensure justice is served regarding the situation in Rivers State.
