The Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) has rescheduled the match day 34 fixture involving Akwa United and Heartland Football Club of Port Harcourt.
The game was built to take place on Sunday, June 2 but has been shifted to Monday, June 2 to accommodate Super Eagles Captain William Troost-Ekong as his foundation will be launched on Sunday the 2nd.
Both the NPFL fixture and the William Troost-Ekong Foundation will take place at the sport bowl of Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, Uyo and the league management have communicated the importance of shifting the league game to both teams.
“Kindly be informed that the above Matchday 34 fixture Akwa United vs Heartland has been rearranged to Monday 3rd June, 2024 due to the approval of the Nigeria Football Federation and the Akwa Ibom State Government for the use of Godswill Akpabio Stadium, Uyo on Sunday 2nd June in honour of Troost Ekong Foundation,” the circular read.
“Please, ensure that all necessary logistics logistics are put in place to ensure a hitch-free. game.”
Ekong will land in Uyo on Sunday to kickstart his foundation in a bid to give back to the community he is from.
The Eagles defender who led the Super Eagles to winning silver during the AFCON 2023 and was also awarded the best player will land in Akwa Ibom, his state of origin to start a foundation that will help produce stars just like him.
