The Benue State Independent Electoral Commission (BSIEC) has announced the postponement of the state’s local government elections from July 6 to November 16. This change was revealed by Dr. John Chen, the Chairman of BSIEC, during a press briefing on Friday in Makurdi.

Dr. Chen explained that the postponement was due to logistical challenges, citing the need for additional time to prepare and procure essential election materials, which had not yet been acquired. He stated, “We have commenced the process of rescheduling by developing a revised timetable that will accommodate all critical activities and allow sufficient time for adequate preparation.”

He further elaborated, “Today serves as the date for the issuance of the election notice in accordance with the relevant Statutes, particularly Sections 103 (3) and 150 of the Electoral Act 2022 as amended, and detailed guidelines will be released in due course in accordance with these laws.”
