Injured Manchester United Player
Manchester United have suffered a strange amount of injuries this season

In a recent statement, Wayne Rooney made a claim that some of the players at Manchester United are using injuries as an excuse to avoid playing.

However, Erik ten Hag, the manager of the team, has come to the defense of his players, stating that what Rooney said is incorrect.

During an appearance as a special guest on Super Sunday, Rooney expressed his strong belief that certain United players who are currently sidelined due to injuries are actually fit enough to participate in matches.

He further implied that these players are hiding behind their injuries, leaving the blame for poor performances solely on the shoulders of Ten Hag.

It is worth noting that United had a total of 10 injured players during their recent 1-0 loss to Arsenal.

This defeat has further compounded their struggles this season, as they currently find themselves in eighth place in the Premier League standings.

If their form does not improve, they run the risk of finishing with their lowest-ever position in the league and potentially missing out on European football next season.

Under Ten Hag’s management this season, United have suffered a total of 19 defeats across all competitions.

This is their highest number of losses since the 1978-79 season. Additionally, the loss to Arsenal was their ninth defeat at Old Trafford this season, which ties their record for the most home losses in a single campaign.

In response to Rooney’s comments, Ten Hag addressed the media during a press conference leading up to United’s upcoming match against Newcastle United.

He Stated that his players will always make themselves available for selection as long as they are fit to play.

Ten Hag defended his players by stating, “You have to see here in Carrington, the players are desperate to play.” Despite the injuries, he highlighted the efforts made by Bruno Fernandes and Marcus Rashford to be fit for the matches.

He also mentioned that Victor Lindelof and Raphael Varane are actively training to make themselves available for the final games of the season.

It is important to note that United’s injury list includes key first-team regulars such as Fernandes, Rashford, Lisandro Martinez, Harry Maguire, Lindelof, Varane, Luke Shaw, and Mason Mount. Additionally, Tyrell Malacia and Anthony Martial have been out injured for a long time.

However, there have been some positive developments on the injury front. Scott McTominay recently returned to the starting lineup after recovering from an injury.

Ten Hag also revealed that Martinez, the Argentine defender, has been eager to play after overcoming a calf problem.

In conclusion, while Rooney’s claim suggests that some United players are using injuries as an excuse, Ten Hag has defended his squad, asserting that the players are always willing to play if they are deemed fit.

The situation at United remains challenging, with a significant number of injured players impacting their performances. It remains to be seen how the team will overcome these difficulties and strive for better results in the remaining matches of the season.
