The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has set the admission cut-off marks for the 2024/2025 academic year. For universities, the cut-off is 100, and for polytechnics and Colleges of Education (COE), it is also 100.
Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, the JAMB Registrar, emphasized that no university, polytechnic, or COE should admit students with scores below these cut-offs. Institutions must strictly follow their admission requirements as outlined in the Central Admissions Processing Systems (CAPS).
Prof. Oloyede provided statistics on the 2023 admissions, showing that many high-scoring candidates did not gain admission. Of the 5,261 candidates who scored 300 and above, 1,273 were not admitted. Similarly, of the 41,466 candidates who scored 250 and above, 15,399 did not secure admission, and of the 296,909 candidates who scored 200 and above, 138,754 were not admitted.
For specific courses like Medicine and Surgery and Pharmacy, the board had a quota of 66,386 but received 331,208 applications, ultimately admitting only 62,792 students. In the sciences, a quota of 265,634 was set, with 300,267 applications received, and 138,795 admissions granted. In the arts and humanities, the quota was 54,755, but 89,634 applications were received, resulting in 40,298 admissions. For education, the quota was 129,275, with 114,751 applications received, and 75,937 admissions granted.
The top three candidates for the 2023 admissions were Oluwasijibomi Olowu from Ondo State, David Alayande from Oyo State, and Ehijele Orukpe from Edo State, each scoring 367. Other high scorers included Jewel Emmanuel from Akwa Ibom with 366, Joshua Essiet from Akwa Ibom with 365, and Valerie Ezenwoko from Abia State with 365.
Several universities have set their minimum admissible scores. Pan-Atlantic University, Ibeju-Lekki, Covenant University, Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, and the University of Lagos require a minimum score of 200. Afe Babalola University, Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, Nigerian Police Academy, Wudil, and Lagos State University of Science and Technology, Ikorodu, have set their minimum admissible scores at 180.
Prof. Oloyede highlighted that the admission scores were determined by the institutions themselves, not by JAMB. Additionally, the fee for the Post-UTME was set at N2000.
