In commemoration of World Environment Day, the Management of NNPC Foundation Limited planted 70 economic trees within the grounds of the Federal Government Girls College, Benin, on Wednesday.

Addressing attendees at the tree planting ceremony, Mrs. Emmanuella Arukwe, Managing Director of NNPC Foundation, emphasized the Foundation’s commitment to promoting environmental sustainability through impactful initiatives such as reforestation, conservation, and education.

Representing Arukwe, Mrs. Goodnews Willie, Deputy Manager of Education and Healthcare Programmes, highlighted NNPC Ltd’s dedication to implementing meaningful and impactful Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives throughout the country.

She also advocated for collective affirmative action to take responsibility for the preservation of our immediate environment, which would yield positive ripple effects for the global habitat.

According to her, “As a recently transitioned private company, NNPC Ltd is poised to adhere to global best practices in the energy industry and is dedicated to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

“The NNPC Foundation was established as the social arm of NNPC Ltd to bridge the gap between stakeholders, who represent over 200 million Nigerians, and the company, by implementing impactful CSR initiatives.

One of the primary focus areas of the NNPC Foundation is to carry out impactful initiatives concerning the environment, particularly in observance of World Environment Day.

They planned strategic programs such as tree planting campaigns in schools and quiz competitions to raise awareness among the populace about environmental conservation.

According to the UN Convention, approximately 40% of the world’s land is degraded, directly affecting half of the global population and posing a threat to economies.

Earlier in her remarks, Mrs. Osariemen Aghedo, the Principal of FGGC, Benin, expressed gratitude to the management of NNPC Ltd/Gte Foundation for selecting the school as one of the locations for the tree-planting campaign initiative.

World Environment Day serves as a worldwide platform to increase awareness about environmental concerns and promote action for sustainable development.
