Dr. Yunusa Tanko, the Chief Spokesman for Obi-Datti, has responded to Mr. Calistus Okafor’s claim that Labour Party National Chairman Bar Julius Abure gave the party’s presidential candidate, Peter Obi, N850 million for the 2023 election.
Tanko refuted the allegation, asserting that Obi did not receive any funds from the party and calling the claim false.
In a statement he signed on Wednesday, Tanko clarified that it was, in fact, Obi who provided financial support to the party. He challenged Okafor to present evidence if the chairman had indeed told him that money was given to Obi for campaign purposes.

Tanko, who was heavily involved in the campaign and privy to most of the expenses, asserted that, to his knowledge, the party never provided any money directly to Obi for his campaign rallies across the country.
The campaign spokesman also emphasized that Obi and his supporters were aware of the recent smear campaigns against the LP leader, orchestrated by those threatened by his increasing popularity among Nigerians.
“We are aware that people are already scheming for 2027 and it is unfortunate that certain individuals have chosen to divert attention from the high rate of insecurity and poverty that are currently threatening the very existence of our nation by constantly attacking the personality of Peter Obi.
“Those are the enemies of Nigeria and Nigerians but l know that God will disappoint them and rescue our country from their grips whether they believe it or not,” he stated.
