In a ceremony marking the 20th anniversary of the Esu Karu of Karu Chiefdom, Mr. Luka Panya-Baba, five distinguished individuals were conferred with traditional titles in recognition of their outstanding leadership and contributions to the Gbagyi ethnic group.
Nyesom Wike, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, received the title “Bakuku,” while Tajudeen Abass, Speaker of the House of Representatives, was honored with the title “Kpatta,” symbolizing the “Shield” of Karu Traditional Council. Senator Phillip Aduda was conferred with the title “Katah,” meaning “Shed,” and Zaphaniah Jisalo, Minister of Special Duties and Intergovernmental Affairs, received the “Outstanding Son of the Gbagyi Nation” award. Hajiya Silifat Sule, the Nasarawa State governor’s wife, was named “Anyi Koya” of Karu Chiefdom, signifying “Women’s Mother.”
These leaders have made significant contributions to Nigerian society, exemplifying the values of leadership, compassion, and public service. Their dedication to community welfare and empowerment has made a lasting impact on the lives of many.
Beyond the ceremonial titles, these individuals have demonstrated a commitment to serving their communities and upholding the values of responsible democracy. Ugochinyere, a student and youth leader, has consistently fought for justice and worked to correct societal ills, exemplifying the ideals of a responsible democrat and party member.
However, concerns have been raised about water privatization in Lagos State, with CAPPA warning that this move could disproportionately affect disadvantaged communities. As leaders are honored for their service, it is crucial to consider the potential impact of such critical decisions on the most vulnerable members of society.
The conferment of traditional titles on these five distinguished individuals serves as a testament to their tireless efforts in serving their communities. As we celebrate their achievements, we must also recognize the importance of careful consideration in critical matters, ensuring that the public’s best interests are always at the forefront.
