The current national industrial action taken by the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) has raised eyebrows on the stand of the action In terms of the ongoing West African Examinations Council WAEC currently being taken by school children.

Labour Union announced on Monday, June 3 the commencement of the nationwide strike as they agitated for an improved welfare for Public servants.

With the current West African School Certificate Examinations (WASSCE) ongoing, the Akwa Ibom State chapter of the Nigerian Labour Congress on Sunday convened a meeting to put the general public on the know as the examinations continue.

According to a release issued and signed by the Secretary general of the Nigerian Labour Congress, Akwa Ibom State chapter, Comrade Alpha Marshall, the Nationwide strike does not affect the ongoing examinations.

He however reiterated that Labour has exempted school principals and examination supervisors as they can help facilitate the process of the examinations.

“Sequel to the ongoing West African Schools examination, which is a regional examination, the leadership of the organised labour in Akwa Ibom State, after a state executive council (SEC) meeting held earlier today, Sunday, June 2, 2024 at the workers Solidarity center wish to inform the general public that the planned nationwide indefinite strike by NLC and TUC will not affect those students who are currently writing WASSCE at different examination centers across the state.

“In view of the aforementioned reason, the examination will go on as scheduled, therefore school principals, examination supervisors, parents and guardians and the general public should please take note”.
