President Bola Tinubu has passionately urged the Nigerian Army to remain vigilant and prevent disruptive factions from overpowering law-abiding citizens who want peace.

Speaking at the grand finale of the Nigerian Army Celebration held at the 3 Division of the Nigerian Army, Rukuba, Bassa LGA of Plateau State, Tinubu emphasized the crucial role of the Armed Forces in ensuring the safety of Nigerians both at home and in public spaces.

He commended the Nigerian Army for its unwavering dedication and selflessness, highlighting the sacrifices made by its members to promote peace within the nation. Tinubu remarked, “What can be more patriotic than to lay down one’s life for the sake of the nation?”

Acknowledging the escalating security challenges faced by the country, Tinubu praised the Nigerian Army for rising to the occasion and safeguarding Nigeria. He stated, “The Nigerian Army has made and continues to make tremendous sacrifices to keep us safe.”

Representing the President at the event, Minister of Defence, Mohammed Badaru Abubakar, echoed Tinubu’s sentiments, stating, “Never in the history of Nigeria has so much been owed to so few.”

He affirmed the administration’s commitment to building a well-equipped and professional army that would serve as a source of national pride.

To support the Nigerian Army in fulfilling its constitutional responsibilities, the President approved the payment of Group Life Assurance for all fallen soldiers.

Additionally, measures have been taken to enhance combat efficiency and effectiveness, including the acquisition of attack helicopters and other critical equipment.

Recognizing the evolving nature of global threats, Tinubu emphasized the need for a responsive security architecture that ensures the safety of Nigerians in various settings, including fields, highways, markets, and homes. He emphasized the Nigerian Army’s vital role in maintaining this security, urging them to prevent violent groups from overpowering peaceful citizens.

While taking direct action against these disruptive factions, Tinubu urged the soldiers to uphold their professionalism and conduct themselves with integrity. He encouraged close collaboration with sister services, other security agencies, and fellow countrymen and women to achieve collective security goals.

Addressing the soldiers, Tinubu expressed confidence in their capabilities and reminded them of their duty to protect the nation while upholding justice.

He concluded, “Your charge now is not only to safeguard your country but to always do what is right and just. As your Commander-In-Chief, I have full faith in you.”

In his remarks, Chief of Army Staff, Lt. General Taoreed Lagbaja, affirmed the Nigerian Army’s maturity as a highly professional and formidable force, aligning their actions with the directive of the Commander-in-Chief.

He emphasized their commitment to dealing decisively with all security challenges, demonstrating their unwavering dedication as a committed and professional force.
